Looking For A New, Effective Treatment For Vaginal Atrophy?
What Is Vaginal Atrophy?
Vaginal atrophy (atrophic vaginitis) is the thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal walls due to the body having less oestrogen. Vaginal atrophy most commonly occurs after menopause. In some women this condition will cause vaginal discomfort, redness, itching, dryness, discharge, burning sensation, frequent urinary infections and pain during intercourse. These symptoms affect up to 50 % of women and can significantly reduce quality of life in women during and after menopause.
The female hormone oestrogen affects the health of the tissues in and around vagina. Adequate production of this hormone in pre-menopausal years keeps vagina moist, well lubricated and vaginal wall lining thicker and more elastic.
During and after menopause ovaries produce less oestrogen and this affects tissues in and around vagina leading to thinning of the tissues and reduced numbers of glands that make mucus.
What Are The Symptoms Of Vaginal Atrophy?
With moderate to sever vaginal atrophy, you may experience the following vaginal and urinary symptoms:
Vaginal burning
Vaginal discharge
Vaginal dryness
Burning with urination
Genital itching
Urgency with urination
Urinary incontinence
More urinary tract infections
Light bleeding after intercourse
Decreased vaginal lubrication during sexual activity
Discomfort with intercourse
Shortening and tightening of the vaginal canal
What Treatments Are Available?
There are number of different preparations and medications available to alleviate symptoms of vaginal atrophy. From non-hormonal vaginal lubricants, vaginal oestrogen creams to hormone replacement therapy (HRT). These treatments usually work well but the symptoms may return once the treatment is stopped.
Dr Mirjana offers treatment for vaginal atrophy with the Renovalase medical laser treatment.
RenovaLase® Medical Laser Treatment
RenovaLase® is a revolutionary medical laser treatment designed to improve “trophism” or nutrition and metabolism of vaginal tissues. Treatment improves the function of vaginal mucosa and reverses the effects of atrophy. Non-ablative laser beam gently heats vaginal canal, without causing thermal damage, stimulates cell regeneration, increases the amount of collagen, elastin and blood flow in vaginal tissues.
Improved blood flow and repaired vaginal tissues result in increased lubrication and mucosal elasticity. RenovaLase® is a safe and effective medical laser procedure that can be of great help in cases where hormonal oestrogen treatments are not an option or not desired. The effects of healthier vaginal tissues and improved symptoms can last for up to12 months. Yearly booster treatments are advised to maintain longevity and effectiveness of this procedure.
